Argea CEO and distinguished MIT professor to present "How Will Globalization affect Mid-Sized Companies?" at September 19, 2007 Webcast.

Argea, an outsourcing and process consulting firm, announced today that Ram Iyer, Founder and CEO, along with Dr. Suzanne Berger, distinguished professor, Director of MIT's International Science and Technology Initiative (MISTI) and author of the book How We Compete, will be the featured panelists at The Conference Board's September 19th webcast "How Will Globalization Affect Mid-Sized Companies?".

The Conference Board's 2007 Mid-Market CEO Challenge survey indicated that "Competition from China and the Rest of Asia" is one of the key business challenges facing Mid-Market CEO's in the next three to five years. To delve deeper into business issues these companies are facing "on the ground", Dr. Berger has agreed to discuss her recent extensive research into competitive strategies of companies that are grappling with intensifying global business competition.

Based on the five-year study by the MIT Industrial Performance Center, Dr. Berger authored the book How We Compete that goes into the trenches of over 500 international companies to discover which practices are succeeding in today's global economy, which are failing --and why. Berger and her team examined businesses where technology changes rapidly--such as electronics and software--as well as more traditional sectors, like the automobile industry, clothing, and textile industries.

They compared the strategies and success of high-tech companies like Intel and Sony, who manufacture their products in their own plants, and Cisco and Dell, who rely primarily on outsourcing. They looked closely at textile and clothing to uncover why some companies, including the Gap and Liz Claiborne, choose to outsource production to foreign countries, while others, such as Zara and Benetton, base most operations at home.

Dr. Berger will be joined by Ram Iyer, a recognized thought leader in helping mid-market companies to adopt the extended enterprise model to improve business performance and increase competitive agility. Argea was recently recognized as one of the "Top Ten Global Boutique Advisors and Influencers for 2007" in the Black Book of Outsourcing for its contributions and leadership in addressing the special outsourcing needs of mid-sized companies. Iyer, author of the chapter "Mid-market companies Confront Globalization" in the book Six Billion Minds, has written extensively on the unique impacts of globalization in the mid-market and is a frequent speaker on mid-market issues at related industry events.

Iyer said, "The future of American mid-market companies will depend, to a large extent, on their ability to adapt to - and prosper from - the forces of globalization. This force presents not just challenges, but also unprecedented opportunities for companies to transform their organizations for long-term competitive advantage. We are very pleased to have Dr. Berger as a panelist in this webcast by The Conference Board. No better research and analysis has been done by any figure or institution on the subject of how to compete globally. Senior executives of mid-sized companies will have access to Dr. Berger's advanced insight into comparative competitive strategies that can't be obtained elsewhere."
