LectureShare is excited to announcement a free Course Management Service via LectureShare.com. LectureShare offers instructors the ability to upload class announcements, documents, audio or video. The instructor simply has to register for an account and enter a course title with a brief description to begin. Once that is done, he/she will be able to start posting course information.
The course will be available to the instructors' students and the public once the course is created. Students will be able to receive SMS and e-mail notification when a course is updated. By offering a high level of connectivity for students and an easy-to-use system for instructors we hope LectureShare will become an alternative to systems such as Blackboard, Moodle, Sakai and others. LectureShare may be an alternative for universities or high schools that do not have resources to maintain a course management system. We will strive to keep course information organized and easy to view by continually improving LectureShare's features and functionality.
Many universities have tried to spread the idea of 'Open Source Learning' but have failed to create a system where instructors can easily teach their students and make course material available to the public at the same time. By posting lectures on the web, anyone can view courses ranging from Quantum Mechanics to General Biology. It has been difficult to get universities to work together to offer courses to the public. A centrally hosted CMS service would allow instructors to update a course as if they were using any CMS but at the same time allow millions of people to follow along as if they too were taking the course.
It is our hope that LectureShare will help bring unity to the 'Open Source Learning' initiative while at the same time offering a course management solution for teachers at the high school and college level. LectureShare is currently a beta service and we will look forward to hearing your suggestions and comments.
