New Jersey transplant Caridad Pineiro has been named the Golden Apple Author of the Year by the New York City chapter of the Romance Writers of America. Ms. Pineiro will be honored at the 17th Annual Golden Apple Awards Reception to be held on September 18th, 2007 at the Pen & Brush Club in lower Manhattan. The Golden Apple Awards honor the year's most exceptional editors, agents, booksellers, writers and other industry professionals within the romance writing genre.
"Writing is my passion and to have that passion recognized by such a wonderful group of writers is very exciting," says Pineiro, who will have six novels released in 2007. Her upcoming September release from Simon & Schuster's Downtown Press, "South Beach Chicas Catch Their Man," is her seventeenth novel and the follow-up to her 2006 hit "Sex and the South Beach Chicas." That book garnered great reviews from reviewers and fans. NYT bestseller Eloisa James called it "A tart and tasty tale of south beach chicas on a quest for love, lust and laughter." USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Greene declared, "A zesty, sexy read…I couldn't put it down."
"South Beach Chicas Catch Their Man" is also creating a stir in the publishing world. Fresh Fiction declared "Caridad Piñeiro captures character qualities and weaves them into fresh fabric of paper print, page after wonderful page." Chick Lit Romance Writers raved "With a little bit of mystery, a good dose of loving, and a lot of great girl talk, Piñeiro's South Beach Chicas Catch Their Man is a novel that all chick lit readers will want to add to their collection!"
From the start, Caridad's novels have received acclaim and have helped shaped the landscape of modern romance novels. In 1999, Caridad was published by Kensington as part of Encanto, the first line of bilingual Latino romance novels. In 2000, Caridad was one of the Latino authors featured at the launch of BookExpo America's Spanish Pavilion.
In December 2006, Caridad helped Silhouette launch its successful Nocturne paranormal line with Death Calls, one of the novels in the award-winning "The Calling" Vampire novel series. "Danger Calls" and "Death Calls" were both selected as the Top Fantasy books of 2005 and 2006 respectively by Catalina Magazine. In 2006, Cataromance awarded "Death Calls" its Best Nocturne Reviewers Choice Award.
In addition to those awards, Caridad has received various other honors for her work. In 2001, "Better Than Ever" won the New Jersey Romance Writers Golden Leaf award for Best Short Contemporary. Her other titles have received a number of nominations, such as the Harlequin Readers Choice Awards and RIO Reviewers Choice Awards. Both "Danger Calls" and "Sex and the South Beach Chicas" have been picked as book club choices. Caridad has also been a featured author on behalf of both Harlequin and Kensington at BookExpo America and has appeared on Fox News, Adelante Chicago, Jersey's Talking and other television programs.
With the Golden Apple Award crowning a spectacular 2007 year, what's next for Caridad? "I'm happy to say that 'The Calling' series will continue with several more books in 2008 and 2009. I'm also in the process of developing yet another novel for my chicas and also, continuing to write for Silhouette Romantic Suspense," says Pineiro, who does this all while being a full-time attorney in Manhattan as well as a mother and wife.
