Integration New Media, Inc. (INM) announced today that it has teamed up with Willings Multimedia in Terrace, British Columbia, to co-develop and deliver the Eleanor Muehle Newspaper Archive to the Terrace Public Library. This is the second project that Willings and INM have successfully co-developed. This archive is a rich internet application (RIA) that enables users to search through the library's immense collection of digitized newspapers and easily pull-up and read articles in a matter of seconds, from the comfort of their own homes.
Funded through an endowment from Eleanor Muehle, former library patron and board member, the newspaper archive is designed to provide all patrons with access to the library's substantial collection of newspapers while delivering a unique, web-based user experience. The application was recently unveiled as part of the library's 40th anniversary celebrations.
"Previously, library patrons had to physically go into the library and search through reels of microfilm to find the article they were interested in," said Vahe Kassardjian, president and co-founder of INM. "Now users can visit the library's website and immediately start searching through the collection. The experience is much more convenient and rewarding for patrons."
The Eleanor Muehle Newspaper Archive was designed to be an intuitive and immersive application. It indexes the full content of the newspapers and delivers results in either a detailed list or a thumbnail view. All documents are immediately available through the application, without requiring users to download files or install third-party software.
"This project required us to process, index and present thousands of documents starting from some pretty scratchy microfilm," said Tim Willings, founder and president of Willings Multimedia. "INM's experience in complex document management with large volumes of data, and building rich user interfaces, made them an ideal partner."
