Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 30, 2007
The 2007 college football season is still a few days away, but demand for tickets have already reached a fever pitch. The hottest games based on average price remain: Penn State vs Notre Dame, Michigan vs Ohio State and Notre Dame vs USC. Yet the games that are generating the most traffic and calls at TicketCity.com are: Alabama vs LSU, LSU vs Florida and Texas vs TCU.
"Right now everyone wants to see Alabama versus LSU," says Zach Anderson, Vice President of Marketing at TicketCity.com. "The number one search term on our web site is 'LSU football tickets'. The number two search term is 'Alabama football tickets'. People are calling, they are buying online…the demand for seats has been amazing."
The average price per ticket on the Alabama vs LSU game in Tuscaloosa is nearing $600.00 per ticket. That's up 40% from the average price just three weeks ago of $428.00 per ticket. The demand is being driven by the fact that it is the first time Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban is facing his former team.
"It's amazing the number of seats that are going out each day. We're shipping thousands of packages to keep up with the orders," states Randy Cohen, CEO of TicketCity.com. "It's almost an around the clock operation right now. We've had people in here putting in 16 hour days just to keep up with the demand. But we love college football, so it's really a fun time for us."
TicketCity.com releases this week's (August 27th) list of the top 25 hottest games of 2007 based on average ticket price. The list was accumulated by compiling a majority of the available tickets on the secondary market throughout the entire country. The secondary market is comprised of over 800 established ticket brokers, and every fan who is listing extra tickets to sell.
Penn State/Notre Dame is the top game in the country again (3 out of 4 weeks), but demand for LSU tickets has skyrocketed and they are playing in four of the most in-demand games in the country. LSU versus Florida is #4, at Alabama is #5, versus Auburn is #16 and versus Tulane is #25. The games versus Florida and Auburn are part of the Tigers top notch home schedule. They will play Tulane in the Superdome, just down the road in New Orleans.
Joanie Duggan, who heads Web Sales for TicketCity.com says, "Every day this week has been amazing. We doubled the number of orders we took on the web this time last year. And we're still receiving hundreds of requests (per day) on the top games. People want to see LSU play and they want to see Notre Dame. I don't see demand for those games coming down any time soon."
LSU fans have been among the best, driving up demand for their home and away games. However, not every top team's fans are rushing out to buy tickets for their big games. The USC Trojans are the consensus #1 team in both major college football polls, and they are involved in three of the top games. Their game against Notre Dame ranks 3rd, their game versus Nebraska is 6th and their game against rival UCLA is 17th. So are Trojan fans buying up lots of tickets?
"Not yet," says Cohen. "The majority of the demand for the top USC games is coming from the fan base of the opposing teams. They are playing in Lincoln, which is always a huge ticket. But I think there will only be a few SC fans in that huge sea of red. The Nebraska fans are just more fired up about the match up. It's probably more a by product of USC success in recent years. They've been involved in a lot of big games in the past five years, so the fans have to pick their spots. But I know that if they make it to the Superdome in January, their fans will be there."
