More than 5,600 athletes from the Americas and 1.3 million spectators attended the Pan American games in Rio, which has a metro population of nearly 14 million people.

All National Public Safety Office (SENASP) operations, including nine different public safety agencies, relied on the emergency response and security system delivered by Intergraph and a consortium of security and intelligence providers. To ensure a successful implementation, Sisgraph, a representative of Intergraph in Latin America and the Caribbean, delivered the emergency response software system and provided training and support for the 15 command and control centers, including one main center, one back-up center, eight local centers, and five mobile centers. The implementation also included the management of security events and units, as well as integration with the local police and fire brigades.

"Security and emergency response professionals in Rio de Janeiro faced enormous challenges in ensuring security for the athletes and spectators," said Reid French, chief operating officer, Intergraph Corporation. "The Games' security and emergency response forces overcame these obstacles and mounted an effort that proved to be a new standard for event safety management. Intergraph is honored to have played a role in the successful security efforts at the Pan American Games."
