Car rental companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are fitting their cars with high-tech C track GPS/GPRS satellite tracking units to prevent thieves from driving away with it.

DigiCore supplies Trakker Middle East with its world renowned range of C-track GPS/GPRS fleet management and vehicle tracking products. Naim A. Hadi, Manager at Trakker Middle East, a partner of the South African-based DigiCore Holdings, says about 30 car hire companies in the UAE have already installed C-tracks -- a move which had already proven worthwhile for many.

Sharjah-based Solo Rent-a-Car says their C-track system enabled them to find three of their vehicles which were stolen by a group of thieves. "With the help of the C-track system, the owners traced the vehicles to a container at Jebel Ali Free Zone, where the police recovered the cars" says John.

Thieves in Dubai and Sharjah are increasingly posing as clients who rent a car and then ship the car out of the country, mostly to Russia, North Africa and Eastern Europe. This prompted car rental companies to use C-track technology to protect their business and save themselves time and money. Ahmed Kheir of Al Mumtaz Rent-a-Car in Dubai says, "It gives our vehicles some level of safety -- we can keep an eye on them all the time."

The system is cost-effective, as it saves time and money in the recovering of stolen vehicles. According to Adul Hamid of Diamond Lease, "We can also monitor the movement of all our vehicles and can thus establish whether a vehicle is being misused. The C-track device can keep track of the car's engine condition by recording harsh braking, speeding an even the removal of any of the car's parts, thus saving us more money," he said.

Private clients in the United Arab Emirates are also increasingly resorting to C-track tracking systems to protect their luxury cars and their trucks, like the Sharjah Municipality (Trakker has supplied C-track tracking units for their 1150 vehicles). As a result insurance companies are starting to offer special rates to individuals or companies that have C-track devices installed, as tracking devices could reduce car theft and vandalism claims from customers, thus offering a double saving.
