In 2007, ninety percent of Kaiser Permanente physicians were honored in the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program for California physicians. The program spotlights those that provide quality care to patients with diabetes.

Each year, the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program releases the top names for physicians that go above and beyond in providing care to diabetes patients. The program, cosponsored by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), honors top physicians based on their quality services and attentive care to those with diabetes.

Honors given out to the state of California included ninety percent of Kaiser Permanente physicians. This Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP) works with patients to find doctors who use the best available scientific evidence to treat patients. With this information, doctors are able to provide quality care to patients.

According to doctors participating in the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program, rates for nephropathy screening, lipid screening and control, and blood pressure control all improved between 50% and 100% within five years, a much faster rate of improvement than in general health practice.
