Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 7, 2007
Lifestyle designer Barclay Butera debuted his redesigned Airstream trailer as a 'green room' during the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Always looking for an opportunity to give back to the community, Butera has once again chosen to benefit the national charity Children's Action Network (CAN). Butera is posting his signature-designed Airstream on eBay for bidding beginning September 1 and ending on October 10 at 5:00pm PST. One hundred percent (100%) of the funds garnered from the auction - which is listed with a starting bid of $25,000 - will be presented to CAN at an Elle Decor magazine-sponsored party in late October at the designer's Los Angeles showroom.
The winning bidder will become the new owner of the 19' Bambi Airstream with its lush, "hip lounge" interior that includes black and white striped exterior canopy and window treatments, leopard print carpeting, custom leather banquette cushions, linens with a Greek key pattern, and other Butera signature textiles all of which "transforms the stark efficiency of the standard Airstream into a rolling boutique hotel room" (David Keeps, Los Angeles Times, 1/26/06) that is warm and inviting. The designer's $15,000 upgrade to the trailer provided an interview and lounge space for WireImage, the Los Angeles Times, the Utah Film Commission, Hewlett-Packard, and L'Oreal; and served as the private lounge area at pre-Oscar parties. The trailer has also been featured on HGTV's "Small Spaces, Big Style" and in several publications.
Children's Action Network (http://www.childrensactionnetwork.org) was founded by families in the entertainment industry, including Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg, and Stacey and Henry Winkler. CAN uses the power of the entertainment community to increase awareness about children's issues and to make them a top priority in everyday life. CAN is currently dedicated to raising awareness about and finding homes for the more than 114,000 children in foster care in the United States who are waiting for an adoptive family and improving outcomes for the more than 500,000 children in foster care. Says organization Director Jennifer Perry, "CAN is thrilled to be partnering with Barclay. We love that Barclay's great design sensibilities are only exceeded by his generosity....and that his generosity will help CAN in our work to help find homes for foster children. It is a great fit and a really fun project that will have a big impact."
Butera has worked with CAN prior, on two House Beautiful design show houses that benefited the charity. Says Butera, "I've been wanting to work with Children's Action Network again; I greatly respect their mission and am happy we found a way to fundraise on their behalf. The Airstream - as one of the most chic and smart lifestyle designs of the 20th century - was a very fun, small-scale creative playground for me. I hope someone else will now be able to take full advantage of it and enjoy its tradition and style, as I have."
