NFL legends Mike Ditka and Gale Sayers both who are board members of the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund will testify at a United States Senate Hearing about the NFLPA disability system. The Gridiron Greats announced that they will hold a national press forum immediately following the Senate hearings which will be hosted by Ditka and Sayers. The forum will feature retired NFL players who will discuss the many post football issues facing retired players.

The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund announced today that two of its most prominent board members will testify at a U.S. Senate hearing regarding oversight of the National Football League retirement system. Mike Ditka and Gale Sayers will address the Senate at a hearing to be conducted by the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. The hearing will examine the current compensation system for NFL retirees with claims of advanced injuries that became symptomatic after retiring from the NFL. The hearing will take place in Washington DC on September 18th at 10:00 am. NFL retired, and dire need player Brent Boyd will also testify; Boyd a former Minnesota Viking is a player that is currently receiving assistance from the Gridiron Greats. The Gridiron Greats also announced today they will host a national press forum, immediately following the Senate hearings on September 18th. The press forum will feature Mike Ditka, Gale Sayers, Brent Boyd, others who will testify and many notable NFL retirees who are advocates for retired player's rights. The press forum will also feature many players and families who have had first hand experiences in dealing with the NFLPA disability system. Our Gridiron Greats organization feels it is important for the Senate and the public to understand from a human perspective the disability issues and challenges with the system many retired players have to face. I am thrilled that my long time friend, and fellow Gridiron Greats board member, Gale Sayers will also testify."

"The fact I was asked to testify will provide me the opportunity to discuss an issue that is creating hardships for many retired players and their families," said Gridiron Greats Board Member, former Chicago Bear, Gale Sayers. "I am thankful to have this opportunity and grateful to the committee for taking up this issue which is affecting the lives of many that played this great game. While our Gridiron Greats Organization is providing support services and financial aid to retired players who are disabled, permanent and long term solutions must be found."

The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund is a non-profit organization overseen by members of the Pro Football Hall Of Fame; Mike Ditka, Harry Carson, Joe DeLamielleure, Gale Sayers, Willie Davis and others. The Gridiron Greats provides immediate financial aid and social services to retired NFL players who are in dire need as a direct result of inadequate disability, pensions, or other support services provided by the NFL, as well as other reasons. The Gridiron Greats Fund assists players with medical costs, food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and also provides hands-on coordination and support services. The organization focuses on the humanitarian side of post-football related issues.
