Deadline Approaches for Bellingham Nonprofit's Peace Builder Award Nominations

The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) is seeking nominations for the fifth-annual Peace Builder Awards, to be held Nov. 10, 2007 at The Majestic in Bellingham. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 19.

Bellingham, Wash. (PRWEB) September 10, 2007 -- The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) is seeking nominations for the fifth-annual Peace Builder Awards, to be held Nov. 10, 2007 at The Majestic in Bellingham. The WDRC invites the general public to nominate an individual, group or business to receive a Whatcom County Peace Builder Award, which recognizes community members and organizations that have contributed to local peaceful conflict resolution within the past year. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 19.

Awards are distributed in seven categories: health care, public service, community, volunteer, youth, education, and program/organization/business. Award recipients will be recognized during the Peace Builder Awards ceremony.

"This is an excellent way to shed light on the wonderful work local community members are doing to build peace in Whatcom County," said Moonwater, WDRC executive director.

The celebratory evening will feature the comedic talents of The Upfront Theater and music from Lindsay Street -- as well as hors d'oeuvres from Boundary Bay Brewery and a dessert auction. It will also include a raffle featuring several, locally donated prizes - highlighted by a trip to Hawaii, provided by Bellingham Travel and Cruise; stays at the Willows Inn and Chrysalis Inn and Spa; and golf packages from Semiahmoo Resort and Homestead Farms Golf Resort.

The WDRC is a nonprofit dedicated to educating and training the public in peaceful conflict resolution skills, and providing trained mediators to empower the community to resolve conflicts in equitable and cooperative ways. The Peace Builder Awards began five years ago as a means to publicly recognize those in our community who have actively contributed to the creation of a peaceful community.

Nomination and event sponsorship forms are available online at www.whatcomdrc.org and at the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center located at 13 Prospect St. in Bellingham. For additional information, please contact Moonwater, executive director, at 676-0122.
