The Norwegian marine biotechnology company, Aqua Bio Technology AS (ABT), introduces an all-natural marine-based enzyme to the global cosmetics and cosmeceutical ingredient market.

Discovered in the Norwegian waters by coincidence, the patented enzyme, ZONASE, is now creating buzz in the global skin care market. It was a well known fact that aquaculture research staff working with bare hands in the water where fish were hatched had surprisingly smooth skin. It was this fact that peeked the curiosity of researchers of Norway's University of Bergen more than 20 years ago. Research revealed that the enzyme that degrades the fish egg shell also rejuvenated the skin of the hatcheries' staff. Since then, ABT has patented the extraction process as well as the enzyme, and has successfully incorporated ZONASE into a wide range of skin care formulations.

"ZONASE is an all natural and non-toxic enzyme which is perfectly suited and highly effective for skin care applications," said Mr. Einar Vangsnes, CEO of Aqua Bio Technology AS. "At ABT, we call this process 'skin care designed by nature' as the enzyme is designed to catalyze the degradation of protein in eggshell, without imposing any negative effect on the larvae."

ABT has conducted comprehensive studies of the ZONASE enzyme; all tests prove ZONASE completely safe and highly effective in a range of applications. By removing dead skin cells, and not harming living cells, ZONASE has successfully been formulated into anti-aging, skin repair and even excema and psoriasis applications.

ABT has combined the ZONASE enzyme with a unique delivery system called "SMIDS" for further enhancement of the ZONASE enzyme effect. SMIDS is a patented blend of carrageenan from red algae and marine collagen used as a stabilizing agent to regulating skin cream consistency.

"With the increasing interest in marine-based and natural ingredients, we are thrilled to introduce ZONASE to the worldwide ingredients markets," said Mr. Vangsnes. "Our next step is to identify global partners for our go-to-market strategy."

ABT will be showcasing its ZONASE ingredient and formulations at the upcoming HBA Global Expo in New York, September 18-20, 2007.
