Equivio, the provider of near-duplicate detection software, announced today the release of a product for capturing and structuring email threads. Following an intensive and highly successful Beta program with a number of partners, including live cases, Equivio>EmailThreads is now generally available.
Equivio>EmailThreads utilizes patent-pending technology to slash the number of emails that need to be read in litigation review and internal investigations. In trials of the product on the Enron case data, the number of emails for review was reduced from 515,000 to 140,000. This represents a saving of almost 75%.
"Our product uses a content-centric strategy," said Amir Milo, CEO of Equivio, "In contrast to the use of metadata, our content-centric technology provides a very robust solution that works effectively across different email systems and formats. Metadata is often missing, corrupt or subject to misinterpretation, but we are immune to these problems."
Milo continued, "The content-centric strategy also allows users to focus review efforts on the last email in a thread. By analyzing the content, we can be sure that the last email contains the information from all the previous layers in the thread. This is the key to reducing review time in email threads."
Equivio groups emails belonging to a thread, and builds the thread hierarchy. In reconstructing the thread, Equivio identifies the original email, and builds the various branches of the thread from subsequent "send events", such as reply and forward.
The input to the product is an unstructured collection of emails. The output data is loaded into the user's standard review platform. Equivio can accept emails in either native or extracted text format, including both fielded and non-fielded email files. Equivio>EmailThreads is offered as a fully integrated component within Equvio>NearDuplicates.
Equivio groups near-duplicates and structures email threads. Equivio's patent-pending technology zooms in on unique data, allowing you to read less, think more, win big. In the 2007 Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery Survey, Equivio was ranked a Top 10 software vendor by both law firms and corporations.
