First Nations University of Canada Receives $10,000 for Prize

A new scholarship fund at the First Nations University of Canada is being made possible by Adam DreamHealer, a keynote speaker at Cowessess First Nations' Provincial Traditional Healing Gathering.

Regina, BC (PRWEB) September 22, 2007 -- A new scholarship fund at the First Nations University of Canada is being made possible by Adam DreamHealer, a keynote speaker at Cowessess First Nations' Provincial Traditional Healing Gathering.

"I am proud of my First Nations heritage. Past injustices have occurred and yet a spiritually enlightened people survive," said Adam DreamHealer. "Forgiveness is healing - peace is healing. This donation will help balance the pain resulting from the residential schools by supporting a hopeful future through education."

Adam is graciously donating a $10,000 endowment in perpetuity, which will provide an annual estimated scholarship of approximately $300 to aid FNUniv science students.

On Sunday, September 23rd, a special presentation will be held at 9:00 a.m. prior to the conference's final workshop at the University of Regina's Education Auditorium.

"We are very thankful for this contribution," said Charles Pratt, President of the First Nations University of Canada. "This award will not only serve as a financial incentive, but it also demonstrates how learning is a significant part of the healing journey, which can be interrelated with a formal education."

First Nations students enrolled full-time in a Bachelor of Science or Applied Science program will be eligible to apply. The criteria for application will be based on academic merit, combined with financial need. The first award recipient of the Adam DreamHealer Prize will be announced in Spring 2009.

The mission of the First Nations University of Canada is to enhance the quality of life, and to preserve, protect, and interpret the history, language, culture, and artistic heritage of First Nations.
