Belzona, the leader in industrial protective coatings and repair composites, announces its pledge to reduce CO2 levels by 20 percent per ton manufactured before 2011.

Our recent ISO 14001 accreditation provides independent verification of the achievements which have already been made. As with any management system, continuous improvement is the order of the day, and from the early stages of product development, to manufacturing, to the actual application, we are placing even greater emphasis on keeping our activities environmentally sound.

Belzona, Inc., a leading manufacturer of industrial coatings and repair composites for more than 55 years, is announcing a major initiative to vastly reduce its carbon footprint and VOC (Volatile Organic Content) emissions. They have set up some serious objectives to meet within the next four years in regards to CO2 emission levels.

The company has long been at the forefront of environmental issues through the conservation of plants and equipment, waste minimization, pollution control, and energy efficient measures. Their recent announcement, however, raises the bar even further. Belzona has recently committed more time, effort, and capital investment to reducing their emissions of hazardous waste to the Earth's natural resources, including the air, water and land.

Belzona has taken environmentally conscious steps to reformulate their existing products and significantly reduce VOC emissions, and to adopt more efficient manufacturing processes. Energy consumption is one of the areas Belzona aim to greatly influence with their products. The effort includes manufacturing products with less power requirements, not only to reduce energy bills, but to lessen electrical demand and mitigate waste. These measures are aimed at a 20 percent reduction of CO2 per ton of manufactured material by 2011. Belzona is already well on its way to achieving this goal.

"As a chemical processing company, we are acutely conscious of the need to meet our environmental responsibilities," said Chris Lucas, Technical Service Manager at Belzona.

"Our recent ISO 14001 accreditation provides independent verification of the achievements which have already been made. As with any management system, continuous improvement is the order of the day, and from the early stages of product development, to manufacturing, to the actual application, we are placing even greater emphasis on keeping our activities environmentally sound." FOR 2007

Aside from the aforementioned objectives to reduce CO2 and VOC emissions, the following are additional responsibilities Belzona will take on for the green initiative:
● More effective recycling of drums, pallets, cardboard, and paper
● Extending recycling activities to include plastic cartons, bottles, and cans
● Engage staff by running competitions to reduce waste
● Change to energy efficient lighting on all sites
● Monitor/encourage employees to switch-off lighting when rooms are not in use.
