Card Player Media's Inaugural Online Player of the Year Award is a Tight Race

The final 3 months of the OPOY race promise to be exciting.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) September 26, 2007 -- Card Player Media is gearing up to award its first-annual Card Player Online Player of the Year (OPOY) award, and the race for the top spot is too close to call.

Established this year, the OPOY was developed to recognize outstanding achievement in online poker. The award tracks all online tournaments open to U.S. players that attract at least 100 or more participants and have a buy in of $100 or more and a total prize pool of over $100,000.

With notable online players Matt "ch0ppy" Kay, Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi, and Chad "lilholdem954" Batista leading the way, the 2007 OPOY is filled with dynamic players focused on winning this prestigious award. Information on the race and these top players can be found at CardPlayer.com's Online Zone, the most comprehensive place for online poker information on the Internet.

"Card Player saw the need to recognize online poker player's accomplishments," said Shawn Green, content manager for CardPlayer.com. "Internet players often overcome fields of 5,000 to 7,000 players and it was time these outstanding players were acknowledged for their achievements in the poker industry's preeminent poker publication."
Card Player established its Player of the Year Award, which tracks live poker tournament winners in 1997. Since that time, the award has become the most respected tournament poker ranking system in the industry.

The top five in the 2007 OPOY race are:

Place, Player -- Points -- OPOY Winnings
1. Matt "ch0ppy" Kay -- 6,574 -- $670,937
2. Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi -- 6,240 -- $552,379
3. Chad "lilholdem954" Batista -- 5,090 -- $678,897
4. Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron -- 5,004 -- $597,980
