Greyhounds are friendly, social dogs that make wonderful pets. They are a rare breed to own, and to think that I could help save a life by bringing one into my home was something I could not pass up

The Sixth Annual Greyhound Planet Week fundraiser hosted by PETCO and the PETCO Foundation ended this week raising more than $260,000 for Greyhound rescue organizations nationwide.
Customers visiting PETCO’s more than 870 stores rounded their purchases to the nearest dollar with the proceeds being distributed to local organizations that support greyhound rescue.
“PETCO and the PETCO Foundation are so thankful for the generosity of PETCO’s customers, vendors and associates who donated to the groups that dedicate their lives to saving retired racers,” says PETCO Foundation Vice President and Director Paul Jolly.
During the campaign, stores invited their local greyhound adoption partners to help educate customers about the breed and greyhound adoption.
“Greyhounds are friendly, social dogs that make wonderful pets. They are a rare breed to own, and to think that I could help save a life by bringing one into my home was something I could not pass up," says Rockford, Ill., PETCO General Manager Mark Cooley proud owner of Rex who he adopted seven years ago.
Greyhound adoptions account for nearly 20 percent of all dog adoptions in PETCO stores. PETCO encourages customers to Think Adoption First before the purchase of any companion animal – even if it’s one of the birds, reptiles, or small animals currently offered in PETCO stores.
