The Crystal Awards Honor the Best Internet Videos, and Show Them Before a Live Audience

The brand new Crystal Awards Film Festival seeks to encourage quality in short internet videos of the 'YouTube' type. Anyone anywhere can submit a video, and many will be shown before a live audience in Los Angeles. This coming November there will be an awards ceremony, during which the best videos in 16 categories will be honored.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 4, 2007 -- Finally there's a way to celebrate worthy accomplishments in the relatively new field of short Internet videos. Over the last year these clips have turned the media and Internet worlds upside down, as one can get just about any TV show, film, music video, or news event on sites like YouTube, AOL, Bolt, and Grouper. Thousands of videos are uploaded to the major sites every day, and it seems we are seeing the birth of a new art form.

But how to separate the truly unique, quality works from the vast sea of ordinary videos?

The Crystal Awards seeks to do just that. Not only will 16 awards be given to the winners at the ceremony in March, but any video submitted has a chance to be screened at the ongoing Crystal Awards Film Festival at the Royal Theater. This addresses a common complaint about internet video: until now, experiencing these works has been a rather lonely experience, with one viewer staring at one computer. The Crystal Awards Film Festival invites filmmakers to present and discuss their works with a live audience.

Internet video is a true 'people's medium'; one doesn't need a film school education, a huge budget, or connections to enter the game. One doesn't even need a video camera necessarily, just a video-capable cellphone.

What one does need is imagination, to stick out from the crowd. Every video submitted through the Crystal Awards website is viewed by one of our judges; if it is deemed worthy, it will be shown before a live audience. If it reaches the Nominee stage, it will be screened also at the Awards Ceremony. The winners will be featured on the website, and shown many more times.

It's perhaps the cheapest and easiest way for budding videographers, filmmakers, artists, musicians, bands, actors, directors, and performance artists to get exposure for their work.
