Situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountain Region outside of Yellowstone National Park, lying quietly in the Shoshone National Forest, is a very unique group of historic lodges known as The Lodges of East Yellowstone. The East Lodges date back as far as the early 1900's, during the days of the Wild West when Col. Buffalo Bill Cody was the Great West promoter of the day. Buffalo Bill recognized the vast opportunities to share this small piece of the American West with the nation in this 50 mile stretch between Cody, Wyoming and the East gate to Yellowstone National Park.
Cody, WY (PRWEB) January 11, 2007 -- Situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountain Region outside of Yellowstone National Park, lying quietly in the Shoshone National Forest, is a very unique group of historic lodges known as The Lodges of East Yellowstone.
The Lodges of East Yellowstone consist of still family owned lodges known as Absaroka, Bill Cody, DNR, Elephant Head, Goff Creek, Pahaska Tepee, Red Pole, Shoshone and Yellowstone Valley. Snuggled in between peaks known as Trout, Taramagan, Stinking Water, Fortress, Sleeping Giant and Cody, history has almost stood still in this quaint little area known as Wapiti Valley. Each lodge runs very similar to the way they were run when they first opened. Guests, or otherwise know as "dudes", still check in at the main lodge, are given there cabin assignments, dinner schedule, fitted for the saddle they will be using on their rides and encouraged to participate in the campfire cookouts in the evening. While the lodge amenities have had to step up to the plate to accommodate the traveler of today with Internet access, meeting rooms, and TV's - the experience is very much the same as it was in the beginning.
Cowboys or "wranglers" still move at their own pace recounting backcountry encounters with the local wildlife, the horse he broke to ride, the truck he lost in the last card game and his dog, which of course is the smartest one on the ranch. The cook, who is now sometimes called the chef, still puts out some of the finest fare be it family as we remember- pancakes stacked high, steaks on the fire, barbecue ribs and chicken on the grill or meals with a more contemporary flair such as steak au poive, veal marsala, steamed crab legs and rack of lamb.
While family vacations and retreats are the main stay for the high season June-July, vacation packages can be designed during the off season as well. Stays can be per night or all inclusive. Packages can include horseback riding, blue ribbon fly fishing, back country pack trips, Yellowstone National Park tours or photography excursions. Lodges can accommodate singles, groups, seniors, bikers and international travelers.
