Savvy Citizen-Inventors Featured on VoiceAmerica: The Power of One: What's Your Mission?%u201D
Debra Berg brings The Power of One: What's Your Mission? to VoiceAmerica.com's flagship channel.
(PRWEB) January 27, 2007 -- Is it possible that your next-door neighbor could invent a way to counter welfare or stop school violence? "Absolutely," says Debra J. Berg, host of the new talk radio show, The Power of One: What's Your Mission? "In fact, it's everyday people who are taking on 'power missions' to address the nation's Goliath-sized social ills," she added. Her show airs live Wednesdays at 1 PM/PST, 4 PM/ET on the VoiceAmerica Channel (www.voice.voiceamerica.com).
Berg, who bills her show as "Your bump from the soundbite slump" bases her unique show on a decade of interviews with creative individuals across thirty American cities. She chronicled their inventions in her book, The Power of One: The Unsung Everyday Heroes Rescuing America's Cities. On her own dime, the author and talk show host uncovered an unorchestrated grassroots movement of citizens whose social cures are now replicating nationwide. "It's an historically new phenomenon also spreading throughout the globe," maintains Berg whose mission is now to take these ideas to the airwaves.
Berg launched her first show with the little known story-behind-the-story of a radio call-in listener who crafted the Amber Alert plan. The inventor's identity was unknown for six years after the program was operational nationwide. On future shows, Berg will host more heroes who've countered everything from gangs to domestic violence and poverty to Katrina-like disasters. "It's an "average guy and gal" movement that's below the media radar and needs spotlighting," says Berg. Occasionally, she'll feature well-known experts on volunteerism, social enterprise, and philanthropy.
The Power of One: What's Your Mission? is a one-hour interview call-in format on VoiceAmerica.com's flagship channel. Typically, Berg highlights a specific social problem and invites two citizen-inventors from different cities on the show. Each one has sacrificed significant time, finances, and their lifestyle to fine-tune a successful initiative. "Who knows?" says Berg, "it may spark a new reality show!" "But," she added, "these heroes are so humble, someone else would have to nominate them."
