Maconite Businessman is Recognized Internationally as a Two-Timer

From time to time, less notable honors and achievements linking Macon to the rest of the world take place as has been the case with Ingleside Pizza's own Jef Fraley, a member of the United States Pizza Team and Alabama Vest's invention of the kazoo.

This past weekend marked another notch on Macon's figurative belt of history. Troy Tarpley, owner of Dent Tricks, a Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) company, tied for 1st place at the 6th annual International Dent Olympics in Clearwater, FL. This would be impressive enough considering the number of contestants competing from around the world. However, this is Mr. Tarpley's second 1st place title. He also took the 1st place title at the 2005 International Dent Olympics in Orlando, FL.

The Dent Olympics, which is part of The Mobile Tech Expo, is a competition based on quality and the competition is as stiff as the specialized tools the technicians use to perform their craft. PDR is the art of removing dents and dings from automobiles without the use of paint, putty or fillers. Dent technicians use highly specialized rods and bars to carefully access the dent from the back and care fully massage the dent back to its original shape without cracking the paint or leaving any texture difference. This has to be done to the best of their ability and within 45 minutes. These are some of the best technicians in the world and the competition gives them a chance to test their skills against one another. To get to this level of skill takes years. The learning curve can range from many months to years and like golf, you can practice for years and never become proficient.

Dent technicians come from around the world annually to compete in the International Dent Olympics. Some of the countries represented have been Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Russia, Canada, France, Germany, England, The Netherlands and The United States. 2007 marked the largest field of contestants ever, with over fifty entries, but given time constraints, there was a limited number allowed to enter.

Troy Tarpley has been performing PDR since 1995 and been servicing middle Georgia since founding Dent Tricks in 1996.
