La Jolla, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2007 -- Koreanist Don Southerton announces the release of his latest historical novel set in late nineteenth century Korea. The work is titled A Yankee in the Land of the Morning Calm: Gold & Rail. A sequel, the book weaves key historic events of the era with a fictional account of Yankee trader Josh Gillet.

Southerton notes, "Linking fact and fiction, A Yankee in the Land of the Morning Calm: Gold & Rail, follows Connecticut Yankee Josh Gillet's adventures in Korea just as American concessionaires and influence make huge new inroads. "

In addition the author cites, "Despite ill-fated romance and disappointment on a previous sojourn to the Land of the Morning Calm--Korea, the main character Josh arrives amid dramatic change in this ancient land. Just as western influence begins to impact Korea, Josh, too, is shaped by new experiences. These include a budding relationship, defining his individuality, and forging new allegiances."

A Yankee in the Land of the Morning Calm: Gold & Rail will appeal to those interested in better understanding Korea and the role Americans played in the opening of the region to the Western commerce and modernization.

About the Author:
Don Southerton has held a life-long interest in Korea and its rich culture. His previous non-fiction books center on American entrepreneurialism and early U.S.-Korean business ventures. Southerton also writes and comments extensively on modern Korean business culture and its impact on global organizations. Moreover, Southerton maintains an active schedule overseeing a Korea-focused consulting firm, Bridging Culture Worldwide™

This is the author's second novel and is part two of the A Yankee in the Morning Calm trilogy that blends historical fact with ample amounts of imagination.

A Yankee in the Land of the Morning Calm: Gold & Rail is now available at www.iuniverse.com or phone 1-800-AUTHORS.
