Free agents go from "The Big Screen to the Boardroom." Is EPOCH the William Morris of Executive Search? A total picture radio podcast with Linda N. Stewart, Founder, CEO and President of EPOCH. "We're more like William Morris than Heidrick & Struggles. Our executive free agents play starring roles in specific projects and short term assignments." - Linda N. Stewart

Movie stars like Jody Foster and Denzel Washington have always employed talent agents to help develop their careers. Having knowledge of their client's goals and aspirations, the best are well positioned to find their perfect roles. Organizations such as Creative Artist Agency and William Morris are in the top tier. Why shouldn't highly accomplished executives have a "William Morris" to help direct, and accelerate their "next starring roles?"

That is the inspiration behind a new interim executive engagement consultancy called EPOCH. Linda N. Stewart, the founder, CEO and president of EPOCH, was interviewed for a Career Transition edition of the popular Internet radio show, Total Picture Radio.

Ms. Stewart, a former senior executive at Veritude and Fidelity, told Peter Clayton of Total Picture Radio, how EPOCH was conceived: "Those free agents author Dan Pink writes about have moved from the big screen to the ballpark to the boardroom, and that's where we come in," adding, "businesses are feeling the effects of retiring baby boomers, loss of skilled executive talent and ever-tightening cost controls. Our interim C-level executives are able to do far more than just to fill an executive gap, they have leadership, formidable skills, and experience to handle important initiatives that don't ever seem to get enough priority in today's high-pressure business environment." EPOCH's launch of its executive matchmaking services coincides with a time at which top-level executives willing to take full-time roles are becoming more scarce while their desire to work in new, more flexible ways is growing.

With 78 million baby boomers in the U.S., (the number swells to 100 million by 2010), Peter Clayton, producer and host of Total Picture Radio, asked Stewart if EPOCH "is specifically geared to representing executives in the boomer demographic?" She responded, "we're looking for people who have minimum 20 years senior experience in the business world." If you do the math, some Gen X'ers could qualify. However, the bar is set very high. EPOCH does a very thorough job of background checking and verification of all the candidates they represent. "After all, I come from Fidelity," she quipped, noting her more than 20 years as an executive with the mutual fund giant and its subsidiaries.

The host of TPR also engaged in some role-playing with Stewart: "Pretend I'm 65 and retired. Bored out of my mind. And guess what? I'm a Sarbox wizard. I worked for one of the Big Four accounting firms. I know everything there is to know about Sarbanes Oxley, and I'm looking for something for three to four months. Preferably somewhere warm, near a nice golf course. Can you help me?" Without hesitation, her response was, "you bet!"
