PlatinumDB Consulting and The Adept Group, Ltd announced today the release of npdiFIRST™, a packaged solution specific to new product development which leverages SAP® solutions. npdiFIRST couples preconfigured and integrated core SAP solutions and other non-SAP software with organizational change management, industry best practices, secured hosting, and training services. The packaged solution addresses all aspects of product development including phase-gate process management, portfolio management and optimization, front-end concept development and screening, and ERP-integrated project management.

The release of npdiFIRST will help organizations realize fast implementations for Engineering, Marketing and R&D departments without over-burdening an IT department. "Working as a team, PlatinumDB and Adept have pulled together core integration and configurations of SAP applications with several non-SAP applications. npdiFIRST leverages the enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) in a packaged solution format in order to simplify, reduce the cost and accelerate deployments," according to Anthony DeRosa, President of PlatinumDB.

Leveraging the full value of enterprise SOA for improved new product development requires more than software integration and configuration. Paul O'Connor, the President of Adept Group says "The key is to drive benefits quickly to the product development groups, while reducing costs to the IT departments. Enterprise SOA and the SAP applications that run on it enable npdiFIRST to provide a set of integrations and configurations that match and then advance with an organization's capability and maturity." By matching an organization's current capability and then providing the functionality for future capabilities, npdiFIRST accelerates the desired benefits of product development productivity, including speed to market, resource use efficiency, and greater in-market strategic impact.

SAP underscores the value of combining business process expertise with software flexibility derived from deploying enterprise SOA solutions. "The npdiFIRST offering provides a compelling solution that product development organizations can use to accelerate new products to market and increase product launch success," said Dan Maloney, vice president of Partner Strategy & Innovation at SAP. "Through its innovative use of enterprise SOA and proven, industry best practices, organizations now have the capability to leverage both their existing investment in business systems as well as product development processes."

The SAP solutions integrated in the npdiFIRST packaged solution include the SAP xApp™ Resource Portfolio Management (SAP xRPM) and SAP xApp Product Definition (SAP xPD) composite applications; the Collaboration Projects (cProjects) and Collaboration Folders (cFolders) applications; SAP ERP applications including SAP ERP Financials, SAP ERP Human Capital Management and project systems; and the SAP NetWeaver® Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI) and SAP NetWeaver Portal components of the SAP NetWeaver platform. Other, non-SAP software integrated in the solution includes Microsoft's Excel and Project and The Adept Group's PortView™ and NPD-RiskAssessor™. In addition, npdiFIRST provides integration with Portfolio Navigator™, the leading portfolio optimization tool by SmartOrg of Menlo Park, CA. Inclusion of PortView, NPD-RiskAssessor and Portfolio Navigator are exclusive to the npdiFIRST packaged solution for use in SAP application-based environments, according to DeRosa.
