'Expect the unexpected at the Metropolitan' may be the urban high-rise building's latest marketing tagline, but it has come to stick with residents, some of whom have experienced the surprisingly pleasant lifestyle changes of living downtown.
The Metropolitan, a new downtown condo development, provides first time buyers with premire location and luxury ammenities. For high school sweethearts, Matt Holton, 23 and Kristin King, 22, buying their first home together meant investing in a studio loft with a Murphy bed and chic, modern decor. They made the move from small town to downtown when they heard about the Metropolitan.
"The Metropolitan is by far the best out of all the places we looked at and the price is unbeatable," said Holton. With the nearby Crossroads and the new Power & Light District, the downtown area is a growing hub of art and entertainment drawing flocks of young twenty and thirty somethings who want to live the urban lifestyle to the city core. The young couple from Desoto, Kan. jumped at the opportunity to purchase a condo even before the building's renovations were complete. Participating in the design decisions for their space was one of the perks of buying early. Kristin and Matt visited the building every weekend while it was under construction, deciding everything from the wall color to the cabinet stain. But it was the downtown view that the two fell in love with.
"Our favorite part of the building is definitely the cityscape view from our window," said King. "We don't know if we could move back to the suburbs now!" (Hear Matt and Kristin's story: http://www.metropolitancondo.com/podcasts/metropolitan.mp3)
At first, safety was a concern for the small town twosome, but the 24-hour concierge service eased those concerns.
"I was working as a bartender and often came home late; having the concierge at the Metropolitan always made me feel comfortable at night," said King.
The Metropolitan boasts numerous luxury amenities including a roof-top pool and spa, 24-hour concierge service and a wash & fold/dry cleaning drop off service. The Metropolitan outfitted the condos with hardwood cabinetry, slate flooring and stainless steel appliances. Additionally, access to all of the major highways is just minutes away.
Quite the contrary to the couple, Kasey Degraffenreid, is a single, vivacious 30-year-old who is a seasoned expert living amongst the bright lights. She lived in Las Vegas before moving into the Kansas City, Mo area. After renting on the Plaza for two years Kasey felt it was time to "grow up and be a homeowner." She enlisted the help of a realtor and the two scoured the city, looking at 20 buildings in six months. "My eyes lit up when I walked into the Metropolitan," said Degraffenreid.
Kasey has crafted her condominium into a contemporary space to match her lifestyle. Plum walls are accented with bright 3D art. Her job as a wine and spirits distributor with Major Brands has inspired her décor. An amazing hutch dominates the dining area stocked with wine for every taste.
The self-made wine connoisseur loves everything life in the city has to offer, down to the traffic sounds. She noted, "I just want to be apart of the culture here; what's happening downtown is really exciting."
