Colorado Cosmetic Surgeon Becomes Consultant and Trainer on Harmonic Facelifts

Dr Randolph C Robinson has been selected to serve as a consultant with Ethicon Endo-Surgery, and will lecture and train other surgeons in using the Harmonic Scalpel to perform harmonic facelifts.

Dr. Randolph C. Robinson has announced his affiliation with Ethicon Endo-Surgery, makers of the Harmonic Scalpel, a Johnson & Johnson company located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr Robinson will now serve as a consultant with Ethicon Endo-Surgery, and will lecture and train other surgeons in using the Harmonic Scalpel to perform harmonic facelifts.

The Harmonic Scalpel was originally designed for general surgery, and was applied to the facelift operation several years ago in Paris, France by Dr Françoise Firmin. Dr Robinson trained under Dr Firmin in 1990-91, and observed Dr Firmin performing a harmonic facelift in Paris in December 2005. Dr Robinson began performing the harmonic facelift through his own practice in 2006.

The Harmonic Scalpel uses ultrasonic technology, and vibrates at a high frequency, 50,000 cycles per second, which seals the tissue as it dissects, and ultimately helps eliminate bruising typically associated with a facelift.

"The harmonic facelift shortens the recovery period significantly," said Dr Robinson. "Compared to the more conventional facelift that is performed with scissors, the harmonic facelift reduces the normal bruising, allowing a patient to get back to his or her normal lifestyle almost a week earlier."

Because of the benefits of using the Harmonic Scalpel in surgery, Dr Robinson will pioneer the use into other surgeries as well.

"Using harmonic technology will benefit patients in many aspects of cosmetic surgery because of the improved tissue response," said Dr Robinson. "For instance, applying this technology into the Harmonic Breast Augmentation should decrease the risk of hematomas and muscle soreness, giving women another option in this popular procedure."
