Columbia, SC (PRWEB) October 11, 2007
Columbia International University inaugurated Dr. William H. ÂBill Jones as its sixth President during ceremonies on Oct. 4, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in Shortess Chapel on the campus of CIU.
Jones moved into his new role after serving 12 months as CIUÂs provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. He has also served as a professor of missions and evangelism at CIU for 17 years. Jones graduated summa cum laude with a chemistry degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and holds earned doctorates from both Columbia Biblical Seminary and Gordon Conwell Seminary. Jones also co-founded Crossover Communications International, a missions agency working in 10 countries and continues to serve as its president.
A passionate communicator, Jones has trained thousands of people around the world to effectively share the message of Jesus ChristÂs love and forgiveness using his booklet, The John 3:16 One Verse Method. He has also authored several books including The Daring Disciple Series (Knowing God, Discovering Your Identity, and Walking in the Spirit), and, most recently, Putting Together the Puzzle of the Old Testament.
Jones told about 1,000 guests at the inauguration that he was uncomfortable and humbled at the thought of becoming president because he is Âjust a very small part of an incredibly gifted team. Jones also vowed to uphold the heritage of CIU as he guides the school into the future.
ÂTo hold with one hand all that we value as dear in CIUÂs past, and with the other, to reach out and grasp the glorious future that God has for us. Jones said.
The keynote speaker was CIU president emeritus Robertson McQuilkin who is a mentor to Jones. He spoke of Jones ambitious plans for the future of CIU and encouraged him, Âto go for it, Mr. President, but I charge you to bathe every proposal in prayer.Â
Jones succeeds Dr. George Murray who was named chancellor of CIU.
