Skincare-news.com Releases Safe Tanning Article: Skin Care Tips for Sunless-Tanning

Skincare-news.com shows readers how to achieve a beautiful glow all winter with the help of a self-tanner, the only safe way to tan.

(PRWEB) October 14, 2007 -- As autumn approaches, and the days get a little bit shorter and a little bit colder, the opportunity to get that sun-touched summer glow will wane, as well. Its time to consider the benefits of sunless tanning. Skincare-news.com's newest article, "Weighing In on Spraying On: Sunless Tanning" shows how self-tanning is easy, convenient, affordable and more importantly, safe. Follow these tips for a beautiful bronze well into winter.

Prepping For the Tan:
1. Exfoliate. For the most fabulous, streak-free self tan, exfoliate to smooth away dry skin before tanning. Otherwise, skin may look streaky and uneven, and the tan may fade too quickly. Use a body scrub, Loofah sponge or washcloth all over the body, paying extra attention to the heels, knees and elbows. Also, shave the legs before applying any self-tan. Follow with a moisturizer to prep the skin for the tan.

2. Choose a shade that complements the skin tone. Selecting a shade that is too dark can give unnatural results. Going for a lighter or medium shade will give a realistic, golden color.

3. After application, plan on wearing loose or old clothing. Some self-tanners have a tint, which can transfer to clothing, furniture, sheets or towels.

4. Cover up! Wear close-fitting rubber or latex gloves to apply the tan. The palms of the hands are skin, and will also tan. Orange palms don't look very natural, so slip on some gloves to make sure this doesn't happen.

Applying the Tan
1. When applying the self-tanner, work in small sections from the feet upwards. Massage the product into the skin in circular motions, being careful not to over-do it: rubbing the tanner in too vigorously can actually rub it off of the skin, rather than on. Try to use only a very small amount on elbows and knees, since dry skin tends to absorb more of the product. Also, mix the self-tanner with a dab of body moisturizer for application on dry areas, such as feet, elbows or knees.

2. Stand still! Try to let the product dry for 15 to 30 minutes to make sure it fully absorbs into the skin, and doesn't come off on clothes.

After Glow
1. Don't forget that sunscreen is still necessary! Most self-tanners do not protect skin from harmful UV rays. Also, to extend the life of a tan, use a moisturizer in the days following.

2. Don't fret about an unsatisfactory tan; the color will usually fade after 4-6 days. Also, most self-tanners are buildable, so start off with just one application. Once the ideal color is achieved, go for the darker bronze.
