With the release of netBoot/i v2.0, customers can now deploy a centrally managed iSCSI boot solution across their organization with the enterprise-class functionality they need to realize the many benefits of iSCSI boot.

emBoot Inc., an industry pioneer in delivering network boot capabilities, today announced the general availability of netBoot/i v2.0, its next-generation iSCSI boot solution for Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server 2000 and now also Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. netBoot/i provides a centrally managed SAN Boot solution using standard Ethernet network adapters that allows customers to accelerate server deployment and repurposing, reduce lifecycle operating costs, reduce power and cooling requirements, improve system resiliency and availability and implement more robust disaster recovery solutions.

New functionality in netBoot/i v2.0 includes:

  •     Support for booting Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server clients from iSCSI storage
  •     netBoot/i management console now available as a Linux daemon which runs under RHEL, SLES, OpenSolaris and other distributions
  •     Support for Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)
  •     Multiple iSCSI targets (10) assignable to a netBoot/i client:
  •     
  • Available as an user-selectable boot menu with automatic boot to default
  •     
  • Available as failover should the first or subsequent iSCSI targets not be accessible
