MediSend International Students Tour Baylor Plano Hospital

Trainees from Africa view state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment in a clinical setting. The students from Angola, Equitorial Guinea and Nigeria are studying biomedical equipment repair at Dallas-based MediSend International in a program funded by the ExxonMobil Foundation.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 14, 2007 -- Seven African students currently training at Dallas-based MediSend Global Education Center spent the day October 3 visiting Baylor Plano Hospital. The students toured the laboratory, radiology and biomedical areas in the morning while the afternoon was devoted to the Baylor Plano Heart Hospital. Clinicians and technicians from each area met with the students to describe and demonstrate the technology in their respective departments.

The students, three from Angola, three from Nigeria and one from Equatorial Guinea, are participating in the MediSend Biomedical Repair Training Program funded by ExxonMobil Foundation as part of the ExxonMobil Africa Health Initiative. On October 22, they will return to their countries to begin applying the six months of intensive training on essential diagnostic and treatment equipment often in disrepair.

"Baylor Plano Hospital generously provided the opportunity for MediSend's trainees to view biomedical equipment in a working, clinical setting. Seeing patient care as it can and should be is a great incentive for them to return home to make a difference in their depressed healthcare environments," says Nick Hallack, President and CEO of MediSend International.

Baylor Healthcare Systems has partnered with MediSend International in MediSend's effort to improve healthcare worldwide.

"Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano is honored to be a small part of the MediSend program," says Jerri Garison, president, Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano. "These students trained by MediSend will have a positive impact on healthcare in their home countries."
