Houston, Texas (PRWEB) October 16, 2007 -- Texas Memory Systems, maker of the World's Fastest Storage®, today announced that its RamSan-400 solid state disk is part of the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA)'s demonstration of 8 Gigabit Fibre Channel (8GFC) at this week's Storage Networking World conference in Dallas, Texas.
8GFC technology will double the data transfer rate between servers and storage in Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SANs). Faster connectivity is ideal for server-storage virtualization as well as high performance applications such as transactional databases, decision support, and video on demand. Storage Networking World attendees can view the 8GFC SAN demonstration at the FCIA booth P1, and they can visit Texas Memory Systems at booth C21.

The FCIA continues to drive the improvement and standardization of Fibre Channel as the primary networking technology that connects storage devices in SANs. The 8GFC specification is scheduled for ratification in December 2007. 8GFC will be backward compatible with 4GFC and 2GFC. Applications such as databases, decision support, video, modeling and analytics increasingly demand higher performance.
Improvements in server performance and network bandwidth capabilities will place greater demands on storage subsystems to deliver data quickly and reduce latency. Without high performance storage subsystems, bottlenecks will occur as the application demands for data cannot be met by slow storage. The RamSan-400 solid state disk subsystem from Texas Memory Systems is ideally suited to complementing 8GFC as it can deliver up to 400,000 I/Os per second, up to 3,000 megabytes per second of bandwidth, and sub-15 micro second response time.
