Less Than 1 in 5 Fifth Graders Know Multiplication Tables, Study Shows

Data from thousands of students collected by Accurate Learning Systems Corporation suggests that less than 1 in 5 fifth graders throughout the United States know their multiplication tables, and less than 25% of the fifth graders have memorized their addition tables. Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) October 18, 2007 -- Data from thousands of students collected by Accurate Learning Systems Corporation suggests that less than 1 in 5 fifth graders throughout the United States know their multiplication tables, and less than 25% of the fifth graders have memorized their addition tables. Typically, students who haven't memorized their math facts cannot manipulate fractions or negative numbers, which leads to inevitable failure in Algebra I.

In order to facilitate a solution for all educators, the company just launched www.math-worksheets-generator.com , a completely free website designed to generate and print timed tests for the math basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

"We've been addressing this problem with significant success through our primary product, www.mathscore.com , but realize that not all teachers have the computer infrastructure to get students on a computer on a weekly basis," said Steven Yang, CEO of Accurate Learning Systems Corporation. "In addition to raising awareness of the problem, this new website leverages part of the MathScore technology, allowing teachers to customize timed tests to meet their needs free of charge."

Static worksheets become a problem for many teachers because the students start to memorize the order of the answers. By generating worksheets, teachers are guaranteed a fresh worksheet every time they administer a timed test to their students. The math worksheets can be printed either in portrait or landscape mode with a customizable number of columns. The problems themselves can also appear vertically or horizontally, and the numeric range of the problems can be customized. For example, a 2nd grade teacher who wants to concentrate on multiplication of only 2s, 5s, and 10s can produce such a worksheet using the system. Even the font size and number of problems are adjustable.
