Oklahoman Elected to International Boards

Mark A. Stansberry of Edmond has recently been elected to two international boards: People to People International and The Fund for American Studies. People to People International was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and it enhances international understanding and friendship through activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among peoples of different countries and diverse cultures. The Fund for American Studies comprises nine institutes around the world and brings college students together for educational programs engaging them in a rigorous examination of economic concepts, political systems and moral philosophy

Mark A. Stansberry of Edmond, OK has recently been honored with election to two international boards following their national conferences: People to People International, whose conference was held in Berlin, Germany, and The Fund for American Studies, whose conference was held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Stansberry was elected to the twenty-member Board of Directors of People to People International, which is divided closely between international and American members. He was also elected to the fourteen member governing Board of Trustees for The Fund for American Studies.

People to People International (PTPI) was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and continues to be run by his granddaughter, Mary Eisenhower, who serves as President/CEO. Others involved in the founding of PTPI were Bob Hope, Walt Disney, and the Hall family (of Hallmark). The purpose of People to People International is to enhance international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among peoples of different countries and diverse cultures. It will cooperate with any and all other organizations which are of similar nature and purpose.

People to People International is dedicated to enhancing cross-cultural communication within each community, and across communities and nations. Tolerance and mutual understanding are central themes. While not a partisan or political institution, PTPI supports the basic values and goals of its founder, President Dwight D. Eisenhower. PTPI has its worldwide office in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Fund for American Studies has been educating young leaders on the values of freedom, democracy and free-market economies since 1967. Nine institutes around the world bring college students together for educational programs engaging them in a rigorous examination of economic concepts, political systems and moral philosophy. Their goal is to prepare young people for honorable leadership by educating them in the theory, practice and benefits of a free society. The Fund for American Studies has headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Stansberry, who is a graduate of the Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems offered by TFAS and who led a PTPI delegation to P.R. China in 1994, said in response, "It is such an incredible honor to be elected to the boards of two organizations that have meant so much to me. I look forward to the continued experiences of working with people from all over the world to help further the mission of both People to People International and The Fund for American Studies."

Stansberry serves as Chairman of The GTD Group which has offices in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Washington, D.C. He also has served on numerous other boards and committees, including serving as Chairman the Governor's International Team and Chairman of the State Chamber's Energy Council.
