BTI delivers flexible and affordable optical edge networking for service providers seeking to quickly build out networks beyond the core

BTI Photonic Systems, a global supplier of packet-optical edge networking solutions for the delivery of gigabit services, today announced that it has changed its company name to BTI Systems. The change reflects the company's strong momentum and expertise in delivering systems that combine Optical, Ethernet, and SONET/SDH into a single, flexible platform optimized for the Network Edge. To support the continued investment in packet-optical solutions BTI Systems is opening a design center in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The design center will focus on expanding BTI Systems' next generation of
packet-optical networking solutions.

"BTI delivers flexible and affordable optical edge networking for service providers seeking to quickly build out networks beyond the core," said Lance Laking, President and CEO, BTI Systems. "With our new design center and streamlined focus on microWDM and packet solutions, we are pushing forward to lead the development of data networking solutions that support increasing demand for the delivery of bandwidth-intense applications over a fiber infrastructure."

Packet-optical networking is expected to grow into a multi-billion dollar market by 2012, according to Heavy Reading's Packet-Enabled Optical Networking Quarterly Market Tracker. This shift according to Heavy Reading's report will represent a 115 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2008 to 2012. Packet-optical equipment would represent about one half of all growth in metro/regional optical transport during the next five years.

Since 2001, BTI Systems has focused on delivering flexible solutions for the Optical Edge enabling carriers to provide subscribers with the most advanced data delivery system. The BTI platform - known for high quality optical networking in a small form factor - combines optical layer functions into one easy to manage platform that can seamlessly integrate into existing networks extending reach and fiber capacity.

About BTI Systems
With a focus on making broadband telecommunications networks more flexible, easier to operate and profitable, BTI Systems has developed its microWDM Netstenderâ„¢ platform, the industry's first optical edge system designed to utilize photonic layer architecture. Netstender consolidates key transport capabilities (DWDM/CWDM, Optical Multiplexing, Amplification, Dispersion Compensation and Wavelength Translation) within a single network element delivering industry leading CAPEX and OPEX savings, high density and future-proof networking capabilities for metropolitan and regional applications. BTI's Netstender addresses the issues of fiber relief, reach extension, 10G, 1G, and metro Ethernet service overlay enabling carriers to deliver new high-speed services while dramatically reducing their costs and increasing their overall market footprint.
