Guided Insights, a new facilitation, training and consulting services firm, was recently launched to improve the speed and quality of business results delivered by teams that work virtually, or remotely, across geographic boundaries, cultures and time zones.
"More organizations are working virtually, thanks to advances of collaboration technology that makes it easy and affordable," said Nancy Settle-Murphy, president of Guided Insights, and formerly of Chrysalis International Inc. "The technology is really the easy part. Finding ways to engage people and cultivate trust so they actually want to work together well is the real challenge."
Guided Insights draws from more than 20 years of facilitation and coaching experience consulting to a broad range of leading corporations such as Hewlett-Packard, Monster.com, Keane Consulting, and United Technologies.
A recent study by Kenexa Research Institute finds that 73% of remote workers are satisfied with both their work and their companies, but only 64% of resident office workers agree. "To recruit and retain the best talent, companies have to be a lot more flexible in their working arrangements," Settle-Murphy said. "Companies that want to get the most out of their employees must provide them with the tools and skills they need to collaborate from afar."
Guided Insights helps companies develop communication strategies for groups of people that work remotely, including customers and partners. Other services include planning and facilitating remote meetings as well as face-to-face working sessions; providing tools to virtual remote team members and leaders to strengthen collaboration; cross-cultural training; and organizational assessment services to identify barriers getting in the way of great teamwork.
Managing tough transitions such as mergers and acquisitions, business reorganizations, global expansion, outsourcing and the roll-out of new IT initiatives is another area of focus for Guided Insights. Through a series of assessment interviews and intensive workshop sessions, Guided Insights helps organizations pinpoint the most likely areas of resistance and identifies key influencers best positioned to motivate people to adopt to change.
"Simply handing knowledge workers a new messaging system or shared portal is not enough. People need to make well-informed choices about how the team will work across boundaries, taking into account factors such as goals, deliverables, number and location of members, roles, communication styles, existing relationships, cultures, and perhaps most important, the level of trust. There is no such thing as a cookie-cutter approach to remote collaboration that will work well for everyone," Settle-Murphy said.
"Guided Insights zeroes in on the challenges that are best addressed by facilitated conversations, and then helps us ensure our meetings are productive through relationship-building discussions," says Sue LaChance, director of organizational and professional development for Monster.com. "Everyone becomes engaged from the first moment, whether they're working face to face or from a distance, because our objectives are clear and the facilitated process brings out the best in everyone."
