Grey's Anatomy Star Lends Healing Hand Off Show Big Apple School, TCI Made it Happen

Lubell explained, "Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey on Grey's Anatomy is my cousin. I spoke to her about EIHAB'S anniversary and she and her immediate family members were anxious to help. So Ellen, along with Jimmy and Sheila of the Pompeo family, they have donated these mink coats to be auctioned off to benefit EIHAB."

NEW YORK, (PRWEB) October 20, 2007 -- Ellen Pompeo, best known as Dr. Meredith Grey on the hit television show Grey's Anatomy, apparently is a healing soul in real life, as well as on her show. Pompeo, along with her family, has donated two mink coats to be auctioned off this Friday at the ten year anniversary of EIHAB Human Services, Inc., a non-profit organization which helps the developmentally disabled.

EIHAB - which stands for Empowering, Instructing, Habilitation, Assisting, and Bettering - has been providing a variety of essential services to people with developmental disabilities, in the New York metropolitan area, over the course of the last ten years.

The ten year anniversary celebration will take place at Sand Castle Caterers, 519 Franklin Square, New York on Friday, October 19th, between the hours of 7PM and Midnight.

TCI - College of Technology, Technical Career Institutes, Inc. of New York - was instrumental in getting the mink coats donated.

TCI'S connection to EIHAB is more personal than corporate. Cynthia Clarke, a Medicaid service coordinator for EIHAB is a past alumna of TCI. While attending the school, she took a psychology class taught by Robert Lubell, a prominent TCI professor. As it turns out, Cynthia's son Che, now 16, suffers from a severe case of hemophilia.

"We got to talking and I explained about my son and his need for blood. Robert asked the school to do a blood drive and they did. Che needed blood at the time and from that point on we have been working with blood drives." said Clarke.

That was some 12 years ago, about the time that Che was three years old. Since then, Lubell and TCI, in conjunction with Clarke, have held blood drives to benefit Che. According to Lubell, they have raised 4000 pints of blood over that period of time

When Cynthia Clarke told Robert Lubell about EIHAB's ten year anniversary, once again - with the TCI mindset of community service - he rose to the challenge.
