(PRWEB) October 19, 2007 -- Webcartoons LLC just launched version 1.0 of Value Investors Social Networks for Facebook. Webcartoons LLC is seeking value investors from around the world to join the Value Investors Social Network for Facebook (V.I.S.N.) . Value Investors Social Network is an online members-only community for investors to share their best ideas. Members can post questions and contribute industry knowledge and insights in a forum environment.
The url for the Facebook app is http://apps.facebook.com/valueinvestors/
"V.I.S.N. is an experiment with Facebook. I am very excited by the potential opportunities of Facebook and other social networks applications. It allows us to reach global investors more quickly than any other method, off-line or online, that I know of. Value investing has always worked as proven by the success of Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett, Marty Whitman and many other legendary investors. The second goal of this project is to seek the smart investors with whom we might be able to seed capital to start their own hedge fund. The next Warren Buffett is probably in China or India and this application will let us reach them," says Mike Onghai, co-founder of Web Cartoons LLC.
The concept of VISN is simple. Visitors apply by submitting an investment idea for admission. Once admitted, investors can read and discuss investment ideas written by other investors. There is no charge to be a member, but membership is based on the quality of the applicant's investment idea.
"Imagine a guy from Mars who lands in NYC. How would he find the best doctor? One method is to look up guides in the bookstore. The other method is to ask referrals from friends. From a philosophical point of view, Google is to the bookstore what Facebook is to the friend referrals. I think this will open up a lot of opportunities for social networks and Google must deal with this phenomenon. I can't wait to see Google's response to Facebook," continues Mike Onghai. Interested media parties may contact Mike Onghai to continue this philosophical thought and the repercussions.
Mike Onghai worked as the 2nd employee besides the founder and the co-founder of Geocities. He is now a capital allocator, managing a value investing hedge fund. Aside from VISN, Mike Onghai has several Facebook application projects in various stages of development.
He is currently open to collaborating with others about VISN and other Facebook projects. For VISN, he is specifically contemplating whether to give prizes on a regular basis to reward the top investment idea. "Finding someone to sponsor it might be the most logical choice," said Mike Onghai.
