Nonprofit Organization Embraces YouTube to Illustrate the Power of Play for Children with Disabilities
Ableplay and The National Lekotek Center launches an online video campaign.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 22, 2007 -- The National Lekotek Center (www.lekotek.org)-- the leading nonprofit authority on play for children with disabilities--and AblePlay.org (www.ableplay.org )--a toy rating system and website that provides comprehensive information on toys for children with special needs--has launched an online video campaign to show the impact that play can have on children with disabilities and their families.
The importance of play in the development of children cannot be disputed. It is an essential part of not only their happiness, but of their overall ability, through socialization and problem solving, to coexist in the world.
But play does something more: it often pushes a child to go beyond his or her previous limitations.
A child, lost in play, will often display abilities she was unaware she possessed, and, many times, she will not even notice that she displayed them. This is the power of fun. It is this power that makes play and toys so vitally important to children with special needs.
AblePlay and Lekotek feel strongly about the power of online social networking and web 2.0 technology, and have embraced its potential to spread important social messages to a mass audience.
"We are thrilled to be able to use this new medium to show the impact of our work. So often people think they understand our mission, but through this video clip people actually feel an emotional connection our work. That is very powerful," says Diana Nielander, Executive Director of The National Lekotek Center.
In an effort to help spread the word about the video, Lekotek and Ableplay are asking Website and Blog owners to link to the video and/or mention the video on their sites or blogs.
