Texas Gov. Rick Perry's Endorsement of Giuliani Draws Fire, Says New Texas Observer Blog

Texas Gov. Perry says he would buy a truck even if there were a few features he didn't like. Hence, his kind words for Rudy Giuliani. Harsh words came from the John Birch Society, right-to-life supporters but also from other more moderate stalwarts who think this truck won't hunt. The latest from The Texas Observer.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 27, 2007 -- Texas Governor Perry's endorsement of Rudy Giuliani has produced criticism of the governor from some of his political allies, The Texas Observer says in its latest blogs.

Rick & Rudy Show Not Winning Converts
Immediately after his announcement that he was endorsing Rudy Giuliani for president, criticism started pouring in from traditional Republican stalwarts that one normally sees lined up alongside Gov. Rick Perry. From Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson to Operation Rescue's Randall Terry, the GOP's cultural conservatives and several of his erstwhile allies excoriated the governor.

Criticism from the far right and right-to-lifers was expected. But the Rick and Rudy show is not playing to rave crowds in Texas among regular conservatives.

Patterson asked Harvey Kronberg's Quorum Report, "What happened to conservative principles as the first measure of who to support for any office?"

He continued: "Is this the same governor who upstaged Arnold in (California) with a message that Republicans need to return to their conservative roots if they expect to win elections? I guess the red meat he was serving in (California) was 'rare' as opposed to 'well done.'"
