Barbara Anton has been awarded the Eaton Literary Agency's Annual Book-length Award for her forthcoming novel, Egrets to the Flames. Anton, an acclaimed playwright, celebrated jewelry designer and award-winning writer, passed away on May 20, 2007 after a brief illness. Oceanview Publishing will release Egrets to the Flames on November 1, 2007.

An annual awards program established in 1984, the Eaton Literary Awards were designed to reward and recognize authors who understand the commercial approach and value of short story and novel writing.

Richard Lawrence, Vice President of Eaton Literary Agency, commented, "Egrets to the Flames is a fine book with strong commercial appeal. We knew the gripping story would appeal to readers, but underneath the surface story there is much more to this book. It addresses major issues, such as the sugar industry's impact on the ecology of Florida and the impact of the AIDS epidemic on individuals and families. We are very delighted to give our annual book award to Barbara Anton's fine work, Egrets to the Flames."

A steamy saga of love, passion and greed, Egrets to the Flames (Oceanview Publishing $23.95, ISBN-13: 978-1-933515-11-3) introduces the Hamptons, a wealthy, privileged family of sugar cane growers. Set amidst the burning cane fields of South Florida, Egrets to the Flames is a consuming tale that shines in its tender portrayal of the tug-of-war between knowing when to hold on -- and knowing when to let go.

In an advance review, Publishers Weekly praises Egrets to the Flames by Barbara Anton: "Vivid scenes of harvesting and processing the sugar cane and the hot subtropical setting earn solid marks for Anton...her over-the-top melodrama rages like a field afire."

Susan Greger, Publisher at Oceanview, commented, "We are deeply saddened by Barbara Anton's death, and regret that Egrets to the Flames will be a posthumous release. Egrets to the Flames is so much more than a gripping saga of one family's struggle; it is a candid, eye-opening look at the sugar cane industry and a bittersweet tale about tradition, temptation and the ties that bind a family together. Barbara had a tremendous passion for life that shines through in this phenomenal work."

Egrets to the Flames will be available in bookstores nationwide in November 2007. Oceanview Publishing (http://www.oceanviewpub.com) is an independent press headquartered in Massachusetts.
