New Program Management Handbook Saves Budgets from Going Over, Businesses From Going Under and Projects From Failing Before They Start

The Handbook of Program Management distills the knowledge and expertise of noted business consultant Dr. James T. Brown down to its essence, including strategies designed to help companies create an environment that ensures projects remain consistently on time and on budget.

SEBA® Solutions, a Registered Education Provider of the Project Management Institute, announces the publication of The Handbook of Program Management by Dr. James T. Brown. The handbook is a distillation of the same strategies and tactics that Brown has perfected and used with dozens of clients in the Fortune 500 as well as small and mid-sized businesses worldwide.

The Handbook of Program Management was created to stop what Brown calls "an unnecessary hemorrhaging of resources." Projects managers and their projects are often destined for failure due to poor leadership and support structures in their organization. "When a project spirals out of control, it can cost a company millions of dollars in increased costs, lost revenues, stressed employees, and a damaged public image" reports Brown. It is this last item, he says, that "is a priceless asset that is costly to restore," Brown said

The Handbook of Program Management presents "a framework for Structured, Organized Common Sense," says Brown. The established processes he outlines provide balanced oversight, but more importantly, he reports, they facilitate the ability to respond proactively to the change that is inherent in today's business environment. "Companies with the capability to quickly integrate new people and new technology into their existing structure can 'roll with the punches.' They are uniquely positioned to evolve to the next level," observes Brown.

In The Handbook of Program Management, Brown has created a practical approach for leaders to facilitate project success. His tools include establishing a culture for project success, creating an effective, non-burdensome project management methodology, developing assessment metrics, and preventing failures in communication.

"Poor interpersonal skills, at any management level, can be fatal," says Brown. When communications fail, the likely result will be cost overruns and missed deadlines. "These business-toxic problems can be avoided with some simple 'basic training' for program managers and executives," notes Brown. "The investment pays off in greater efficiency, better productivity, and an increased profit-making ability.

PMI creates PgMP Certification
The Project Management Institute rolled out its professional certification for program managers this month. The creation of the PgMP certification is indicative of an increasing awareness of the importance of the leadership of project managers and the demands of a multi-project environment. The Handbook of Program Management provides critical tools for success in this environment.
