ISO/IEC 19770-2 is the next software standard slated to ease software management and compliance issues. Currently under development, this new standard will provide a common identification and tagging methodology for software. Eracent, a global provider of IT business management solutions for IT assets, has joined the group building the new standard.
"ISO/IEC 19770-2 requires the cooperation of all software manufacturers to implement the standard tagging and identification when 19770-2 is complete," said Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz, IT Standards Support Manager of Eracent. "Eracent as a company has been very successful handling the multitude of labeling and tagging scenarios currently used on commercial software. We'll be able to help bullet-proof the standard so that adoption progresses smoothly."
As an international standard, ISO/IEC 19770-2 will dictate the identification data included on all software titles and operating systems. These tags will make it easier to retrieve meaningful and descriptive information about the software installed in the corporate environment.
"This standard is like an implementation guide for software publishers and professionals responsible for software asset identification, offering structure that does not currently exist today," Krzysztof stated.
