(PRWEB) November 5, 2007 -- Bardon Data Systems (Bardon) and The Pinnacle Corporation (Pinnacle) have announced a partnership to provide Pinnacle Palm POS® clients with implementation tools that meet the stringent security requirements mandated by the PCI Security Standards Council. The PCI Security Standards Council is an independent body founded by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa International. The Council has created a series of guidelines to ensure that customer transactions on point of sale systems in environments such as retail stores and service stations are secure and protect the customer. The PCI standards mandate security measures such as preventing unauthorized personnel from accessing system information, protecting cardholder data, monitoring access to POS systems, and other measures.

"We feel that our products are uniquely qualified to secure the POS workstation," said Bardon Data Systems CEO Barry Smiler. "Our products Full Control and WinU provide multiple hardened levels of security that allow access to cardholder data only for qualified personnel with a business need to know. We take the integrity of point of sale customers' data very seriously. In fact, we believe that our products provide security measures that go significantly beyond those specified in the PCI standards."

The partnership between Bardon Data Systems and The Pinnacle Corporation includes the availability of Bardon's products Full Control and WinU for Pinnacle Palm clients, used to provide a heightened level of user and access control for applications and files on the PCs on which Palm and related Pinnacle solutions reside. Full Control offers security for Windows workstations while maintaining the standard Windows user interface, WinU replaces the regular Windows user interface with a replacement interface that creates an additional layer of security. Pinnacle is offering these Bardon products as part of its Palm POS solution, to ensure the software is implemented in a PCI compliant fashion.

Both of the Bardon products offer these important features for PCI security compliance:

  • Robust multiple layers of passwords for applications and data
  • User access, file and window controls
  • Access restrictions for all aspects of the POS system
  • Detailed logs of system usage and access

Palm POS is the fastest in-store point-of-sale system available today, running under the Microsoft® Windows® family of operating systems. It has more interfaces than any other open architecture POS in the industry. From training to PLU input to scanning, an intuitive touch screen makes every task fast and easy. Palm POS interfaces to a variety of devices including security cameras, DVR, lottery, money order, loyalty solutions, payment networks, and prepaid solutions. Nationwide, it is used to process upwards of $9 billion in total convenience store sales and is certified on 15 payment networks.

"PCI is a critical aspect of our industry" said Drew Mize, VP Retail Solutions for Pinnacle. "We have been committed to securing cardholder data and security related efforts for some time, adding these new tools to Palm takes us another step further and assists our clients in the PCI efforts that impact their entire enterprise, not just the POS software itself."
