Votigo to Support OpenSocial APIs

Company to Develop Applications Using New OpenSocial Programming Model Developed By Google

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) November 2, 2007 -- Votigo, Inc., a leading online social media platform for user-generated promotions, today announced support for the new OpenSocial APIs launched by Google. Votigo shares the goals of the OpenSocial programming model - making the web more social more quickly and easily. The company seeks to play a prominent role in the rapidly changing, increasingly social nature of the web.

For its first social application developed using OpenSocial, Votigo will introduce "Rate My Friends." Rate My Friends will allow users to rate each other's friends in categories such as "Who has the best smile?," "Who has the best hair?" and "Who looks the smartest?" Users will vote in a highly addictive and entertaining head-to-head format comparing profile photos from multiple users. This application will track each voter's favorites, as well as the overall rankings for each category. Rate My Friends is currently running in the developer sandbox provided by Orkut and will be available to the public in the near future.

Rate My Friends is based on Votigo's social media platform that is designed to help companies engage their end users and customers through user-generated content, branded social-networking communities, contests, and promotions. Votigo works directly with advertising agencies, PR firms and marketers to meet their promotional needs through a suite of standard and custom solutions. Votigo was selected to participate in the launch of OpenSocial because of the company's commitment to the development of social applications and its ability to create an application that appeals to the larger community.

"Votigo has created an application through OpenSocial that will allow users to become more active participants in social networking - it's fun, it's easy, and it's contagious," said Mike La Rotonda, co-founder and chief executive officer of Votigo. "Social networking has become a vital part of our daily lives, and we hope that through our work with OpenSocial, we can help others explore new ways to extend their social networks while enabling the web to reach its social potential."

OpenSocial is a set of common APIs, launched today by Google, for building social applications on the web. Common APIs mean that developers only have to learn once in order to start building social applications for multiple websites, and any website will be able to implement OpenSocial and host social applications. OpenSocial will bring more powerful and pervasive social capabilities to the web because developers will be able to develop and distribute their applications more easily. Users will be able to enjoy new social features faster and in more of the websites, web applications, and social networks they use. More information is available at code.google.com.
