Moovera Introduces Mobile Wi-Fi Leveraging iBurst™ Technology from Kyocera
Moovbox Broadband Gateways bridge Wi-Fi with HC-SDMA data networks for broadband on the move.
Sittingbourne, UK (PRWEB) November 6, 2007 -- Moovera Networks, a leading developer of fixed and mobile wireless systems today announced that the Moovera family of Moovbox broadband gateways now fully supports HC-SDMA technology (more commonly known as iBurst™) from Kyocera Corporation as a high-speed wireless backhaul option. Moovbox gateways merge Wi-Fi with carrier-grade cellular backhaul in licensed spectrum, enabling service providers and local authorities to deliver Wi-Fi at street-level for municipal wireless applications, and on public transport for in-vehicle Internet access. iBurst is an 'always-on' IP-centric wireless broadband Internet access system deployed in ten countries including the Unites States, South Africa, Canada, Malaysia and Australia.
"With over 250 million Wi-Fi-enabled devices expected to have shipped by 2011, the demand for Internet access over Wi-Fi is increasing every day," said Jim Baker, Moovera CEO and founder. "While in the past Wi-Fi hotspots have required a wired connection such as DSL for backhaul, the combination of our Moovbox Broadband Gateways and Kyocera HC-SDMA technology frees service providers from this restriction and allows them to deploy outdoor or in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspots with Internet access at megabit speeds wherever there is iBurst network coverage."
Moovera has successfully trialed mobile iBurst-powered Wi-Fi services with Australian wireless service provider BigAir Group that operates in six markets including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. "Innovations in wireless technology are opening up new business opportunities for service providers," said Jason Ashton, CEO at BigAir. "We believe that the combination of our high-speed, low-cost iBurst mobile broadband service along with Moovera Moovbox broadband gateways will prove to be a compelling way to deliver broadband applications in emerging sectors such as public transport." The Moovbox/iBurst trials utilized the 1.9GHz spectrum for backhaul and were supported by Sydney-based Star-Tech Communications, a regional Authorized Moovbox Reseller. Masami Koda, Treasurer of the iBurst Association (www.iburst.org) commented "We welcome the addition of the Moovbox to the growing family of products that support iBurst, and I hope that the unique features of Moovera's devices will create new business opportunities for iBurst operators around the world."
The Moovbox F100 fixed broadband gateway is a weatherproof access point and cellular router for outdoor deployment on street furniture such as lighting columns. The Moovbox M100 mobile gateway is a ruggedized access point and cellular router, offering multiple WAN radios for failover and featuring built-in GPS. Moovbox products also offer secure Ethernet for IP-CCTV, DVR and telematics equipment with remote in-bound access for device control. Moovsuite management tools provide remote device configuration and monitoring, Wi-Fi user authentication and usage statistics, and real-time GPS-based vehicle tracking. Moovera offers the Moovbox product line through a worldwide network of distributors and resellers, and will also market the Moovbox through iBurst network operators. About iBurst
Manufactured by Kyocera Corporation of Japan, iBurst is a mobile high-speed wireless access system that provides approximately 1Mbps (downlink) packet data service per user simultaneously at a frequency range of only 5MHz, and supports VoIP with a quality level equivalent to fixed telephony. iBurst also has the capability for handover and mobility at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour (about 72 mph) as verified under real-world conditions in network tests. iBurst was standardized as HC-SDMA (High-Capacity Spatial-Division Multiple Access) technology by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in September 2005. Additionally, HC-SDMA was included in the ITU-R M. 1801 Recommendation for Mobile and Nomadic Applications in March 2007 by the International Telecommunication Union.
