Errol Grimes Dance Group Paints Downtown Brooklyn RED with Emmy Award Winning Tony Award Nominee Andre' DeShields in a Dance of Whimsy, Fantasy and Passion

RED features multi-award winning and two-time Tony Award nominated actor of stage, film and television Andre' DeShields. DeShields plays the role of Ring Master of Ceremonies when he joins the Errol Grimes Dance Group at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus in New York. In RED Errol Grimes uses Afro-Caribbean and American influenced music, the movement of dance in a stream of consciousness which evokes the ordered happenstance of carnival procession, imagery and creative costuming inspired by the circus metaphor of whimsy, pathos, and the unexpected in a journey of RED hues which features an active volcano, fabulous costuming and special effects November 15th - 18th.

The Errol Grimes Dance Group brings hues of red alive in its production of RED featuring Emmy Award winning actor and two-time Tony Award nominee, André DeShields at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts on Thursday, November 15th - Saturday, November 18th at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, November 18th with an earlier show time of 4:00 pm. RED is great news for Brooklyn's downtown renaissance and artistic director and choreographer Errol Grimes promises that each evening of RED will be a special and unique theater experience with red themes and nightly surprises to include specialty nights with Brooklyn Brewery and Cake Man Raven for Red Velvet Sunday, a family day at the theater.

RED, an original production takes you on a journey through exciting tones of RED which includes an active volcano, vivid Caribbean inspired costumes, riveting movements of dance through a stream of consciousness which evokes the ordered happenstance of a carnival procession and audio-visual imagery as told through the introspective thoughts and travels of the Ring Master of Ceremonies played by André DeShields. RED is inspired by the circus metaphor of whimsy, pathos and the unexpected. The musical score, composed by Mark Ballora is influenced by Afro-Caribbean and American rhythms and features the Penn State Concert Choir, with special guest violinist Max Zorin under the direction of Lynn Drafall. The Errol Grimes Dance Group includes accomplished actors and dancers from Broadway and film to include Andrew Vaughen, Kelly Hamlin, Natasha Diamond Walker, Corrine Negata, Gabriel Zaragoza, Jason Calacino, Mariana Parma and Rob Lok. André DeShields

The Ring Master of Ceremonies in RED, the Emmy Award winning and Two-Time Tony Award nominated André DeShields' early Broadway roles began in 1973, after which, he went on to choreograph a young Bette Midler concert. In 1975, DeShields was cast in the title role of "Wiz" in "The Wiz" on Broadway. Following this highly successful production which made André DeShields a household name, his Broadway credits continued in Ain't Misbehavin, where he further went on to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Achievement for his performance in the 1982 NBC broadcast under the same name. Other stage productions include, the Duke Ellington revue Play On!, The Full Monty, Prymate, Waiting For Godot, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Death of a Saleman, Dusyanta: A Tale of Kalidasa and André DeShield's Haarlem Nocturne of which he wrote and produced. DeShields television credits include Another World, Cosby, Sex in the City, Great Performance and Law & Order. In 2007 Andre' DeShields won an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance. Other honors include Tony Award nominations for Prymate, The Full Monty, and Play On! A consummate actor, dancer, choreographer and all around entertainer, Andre' DeShields is also a multi Drama Desk Award nominee in the Outstanding Actor category for his work in Play On! and Ain't Misbehavin'. André DeShields, holds a Master of Arts from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where he serves as an Adjunct Professor. This is André DeShields first role in an Errol Grimes production.
