Consumer Alert: New Form of Penny Stock Spam in MP3 Form Can Be Stopped With SPAMfighter

SPAMfighter can now stop MP3 spam, which is plaguing users worldwide.

Boca Raton, Fla. (PRWEB) November 7, 2007 -- SPAMfighter Consumer Alert- E-mail users have noticed a new type of spam mail containing MP3 files of songs by well known artists. These MP3 spam messages are now accounting for more and more of the spam mail being sent out.

"Recently we, along with a number of our customers, noticed that spammers have already moved on from PDF and image spam to a new form of tricking people into receiving unwanted mail by using MP3 spam," said Alix Aranza, Managing Director of SPAMfighter North America. "MP3 spam is very difficult for most filters to stop, however, using our community based approach we have already blocked this latest form of spam mail for our entire community," added Aranza.

MP3 files being sent with spam mails are named to appeal to the readers, tricking them into opening the file. Some names being used are those of famous artists such as "snoop.mp3", and "bbrown.mp3". Other MP3 files are named to appeal to the interest of users such as "vmail.mp3" and "funnyduck.mp3". Once opened, users hear a low-quality advertisement for penny stocks.

The main concern with the MP3 files is the size. With some mails being as large as 173 KB, these are the largest forms of spam mail to ever have landed in users' inboxes, taking up a more significant amount of memory space and bandwidth.

SPAMfighter is able to stop these and the latest forms of spam mails due to the community spam filter. If a SPAMfighter user receives a spam mail that has not been filtered, they can report it with one click of a button. Once it has been reported by enough users, it will be automatically filtered out for all other SPAMfighter users. This gives e-mail users in the SPAMfighter community updated protection against the latest forms of spam mail.
