Tat2BeGone Medical Group Joins VH1 Reality Show for Televised Laser Tattoo Removal

Safe House and Tat2BeGone team up to help at-risk youth remove unwanted tattoos.

Costa Mesa, CA (PRWEB) November 9, 2007 -- Tat2BeGone Medical Group Inc., a laser tattoo removal company that focuses solely on the removal of unwanted tattoos, has recently agreed to participate in a television series hosted by Safe House that will air on VH1 and offer urban teens a fresh start and a tattoo-free future.

In this special program, teens who have been tattooed to demonstrate affiliation with street gangs are found by Safe House and supported in their future career and lifestyle potentials. In many cases, this involves removing unwanted tattoos from the face, arms, legs and other visible areas of the body. Safe House contacted Tat2BeGone Medical Group of Southern California to perform the televised laser tattoo removal treatments.

"We think this is an incredibly worthy cause," says Jerry Lorito, Vice President of Operations at Tat2BeGone, "It's time to make a difference in society and provide the vehicle necessary for individuals willing to change their lives for the better."

But there is more to the process than just removing tattoos. For many at-risk youth that are involved in gangs or life on the streets, removing tattoos can feel like a betrayal of what was once thought to be family. "These kids are warriors, so it is a serious decision," says Safe House producer Cherie Ivy, "they want the opportunity for transformation, but they feel they are abandoning where they come from, so it causes real turmoil."

During the initial consultation, with camera crews poised and ready, that inner conflict occurred for 22-year-old patient, Kase, of Los Angeles, who has tattoos on his face and neck. Flanked with his family and counselor, Kase questioned his decision to move forward with the tattoo removal process. Producers reminded him that he was being offered the opportunity to make the change he wanted. "I feel secure that I brought him to the right place," said Ivy, "We want to follow through with the promise that we made to him, that we would provide a vehicle for positive change, but ultimately, only he can decide."

With colored tattoos on African American skin, the laser tattoo removal process could be more time consuming. "It's tough because the areas of the face are so sensitive," said Lorito, "the removal process will take a few minutes, but it will be nothing in comparison to the pain he must have experienced having these put on."

Dr. Douglas Mest, MD, medical director of Tat2BeGone, insisted upon talking with Kase off camera to discuss his personal concerns, saying, "I want the patient to feel safe and supported in his time here, not nervous and pressured with the cameras."

After speaking with Dr. Mest, Kase completed the initial consultation and agreed to move forward with his laser tattoo removal treatment. Footage from Kase's tattoo removal treatment at Tat2BeGone is scheduled to go into production this February.
