Americans Urged to Donate Wisely to Those Affected by Flooding in Tabasco State, Mexico
Monetary donations provide immediate, effective assistance.
Arlington, Va. (PRWEB) November 10, 2007 -- The Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) encourages all those who wish to help those affected by the flooding in Tabasco State, Mexico to donate cash, as an alternative to gifts-in-kind and other commodities, in order to provide optimal assistance. It is widely recognized that cash donations are the most efficient and effective means of response, a policy supported by CIDI's funding partner, the United States Agency for International Development's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, and those in the established international disaster response community.
" As hundreds of thousands of Mexicans in Tabasco start to rebuild their lives and recover from these devastating floods and mudslides, we are all moved to help." said Suzanne H. Brooks, the director of CIDI. "It is critical that relief workers already in Mexico have the resources to respond effectively to their needs. Cash donations are the best way for Americans to offer help. Cash donations allow responders to purchase exactly what is needed help the victims and help to support the local economies throughout the region."
Believed to be some of the most destructive flooding and mudslides to affect the area in recent memory, this catastrophe is unrelated to the devastation caused by Hurricane Noel, just days earlier, with heavy rains and wind.
Brooks further offered valuable insight on international disaster response, "We must remember that even small donations can make a big difference. These small donations add up. Pooled together with other donor contributions, even small amounts enhance the ability of professional relief agencies to respond. There are numerous relief agencies and Embassy-sponsored bank accounts available to provide assistance immediately, where it is needed most."
