Luxor, Egypt (PRWEB) November 13, 2007
Since its inception, Flats in Luxor has recognised the need for specialised tours, catering for discerning travelers, who have a desire to escape the rush and bustle of the standard tour offerings, and want to see something of the real Egypt beyond the big hotels. They are now pleased to announce an expansion of their services to include two new tours. These tours are aimed at visitors with a serious desire to improve their knowledge of Ancient Egypt, and in particular, the 19th Dynasty.
Grandfather, Father, and Son
Traces the development of funerary practices, impact of the type reign through visits to the Funerary Temples of Seti I, Rameses II, and Merenptah. This tour will be conducted personally by Jane Akshar and is based on her paper on the subject.
Housing through the Ages
Following a visit to the Workman's Village at Deir el Medina, established to cater for the skilled workmen who constructed the Royal tombs, the tour continues with a trip to Sheikh abd el Qurna, where for almost two centuries, the Qurna residents set up home in the tombs of the Nobles buried there, making their living by illegal digging, and manufacturing fake antiques for sale to tourists. They have now been evicted, allowing Egyptologists to continue a more systematic excavation of the hillside, where some 350 Nobles tombs are known. No doubt hundreds more remain to be discovered.
View the storage chambers of the Ramasseum that inspired the celebrated architect Hassan Fathy with his dream of affordable housing for the poor. The first attempt to move the Qurna residents was to a specially constructed new village to the designs and under the control of this internationally celebrated architect, and this doomed project, with its Mosque, and Elizabethan theatre, comprises the second visit of the tour.
Finally, the tour ends with a visit to the modern village at the edge of the desert, where the Qurna residents were finally induced to settle.
Other unique tours offered by Flats in Luxor Tours include:
The Quiet Tour
Widely recognised and appreciated as one of their most popular day trips, this tour will appeal to those who seek solitude, and time to appreciate the art and decoration to be found in the Royal and Nobles tombs. Using her knowledge and experience of Ancient Egypt and the sites, Jane Akshar has specialised in finding locations where you are unlikely to be disturbed by the hordes of tourists infesting the West Bank.
The Children's Tour
Another firm favourite and where, with the aid of props and dressing up clothes, children can act out the lives of Ancient Egyptians in a real Pharaonic temple.
The Donkey Ride over the Ridge
Another family favourite, children especially love riding their donkeys into the Theban hills, and the sight of their parents wobbling along with them adds to the enjoyment. This is an adventure they will long remember, with wonderful views of the most of the monuments of the West Bank, Valley of Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut, Valley of Queens and Nobles and a real birds eye view of the workman's village at Deir el Medina and of course the beautiful and mysterious Nile. Jane Akshar says 'I like to call this tour the poor man's hot air balloon. Easily affordable for the entire family'
Jane Akshar said 'I want to introduce visitors to Egypt to my Luxor. I have been coming here 28 years and living here for over 4 and I know there are lots more to see than the average tourist knows about, never mind sees. Still today I am discovering sites and places for the first time. I want to help you discover the same joy I have for the unusual and the unique. There is so much more to Luxor than the Valley of the Kings and Karnak."
